White Van Man to do 56mph

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

White van men will be stuck at 56mph next year when a new move to install compulsory speed limiters on large commercial vehicles comes into force.
From 1st January 2007, VOSA approved action means all vans and trucks weighing over 3.5 tonnes - like the larger Mercedes Sprinters or Ford Transits - must get a restrictor fitted. All new models will be limited to 56mph. An ECU recalibration on a modern Euro 3-compliant diesel engine is needed to cap speeds, so older vans may find a loophole. VOSA believe the speed restriction will improve safety for other road users, particularly on motorways.
