Russian giant may acquire LDV

LDV may soon have a new owner in the shape of Russian car, van and truck manufacturer GAZ, potentially giving it much needed longer-term stability. An agreement has yet to be reached, but preliminary talks are now underway with a decision expected at the end of July.

Boom in utility vehicle market

Several manufacturers are planning the launch of new utility vans on the European market in the wake of a recent boom in the market segment.

The latest version of the Mercedes Sprinter has been available at the dealers for several weeks with upgraded technology and equipment. It is the bestselling van in Europe with some 1.2 million units sold during the past 10 years.

Nissan will introduce new versions of its Primastar and Interstar vans in October as part of a commercial vehicle offensive beginning this autumn.

New Nissan Cabstar on the way

Due to be unveiled at the international CV Show in Hanover in September the new Nissan Cabstar will go on sale officially in the UK on 2 January 2007.

It remains a forward control layout — ie. the engine resides under the cab — and there will be three Euro 4 common rail turbodiesel powerplants on offer.

King Construction opts for Isuzus again

Two more Isuzu NQR 7.5-tonners have gone into service with Merseyside-based King Construction. The firm already runs three and points to reliability and a generous payload capacity — over 480kg more than the vehicles previously operated — as the reasons for its choice.
