Lancashire opts for VW LT minibuses

Twenty-one Volkswagen LT46s transformed into minibuses by Mellor Coach Craft of Rochdale have gone into service with Lancashire County Council. Supplied through Preston VW dealership Lancashire Van Centre they’re being operated as part of the authority’s Travelcare fleet, transporting residents from their homes to day-care and other support centres countywide.

Citroën wins another council deal

vanthingy (16k image)Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has bought its first Citroëns to replace the bulk of its light commercials.

Supplied through dealership Citroën Birmingham, the 35 vehicles — 31 Relay 1800s and four Dispatch 815 1.9Ds — will stay in service for five years. Maintained in the Warwickshire authority’s own workshops, they’ll cover around 60,000 miles apiece.

£6m Materials Project Will Create Lighter Alloys

The University of Manchester is beginning a five-year project to develop light alloy solutions that will transform the way aircraft, trains and automobiles are built.

The work is supported by a £5.98m grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Drivers Pay More Than Quarter Of Costs In Tax

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Drivers pay more than a quarter of their everyday motoring costs in tax, a survey shows.

The 27 per cent tax figure means that of the £387 it would cost the average British motorist to complete the 840-mile journey from Lands End to John O’Groats, £104.49 goes directly to the Government.
