DfT gives local authorities £7m to explore road pricing options

Local authorities in seven areas across the country will share over £7 million to explore ways to tackle local congestion as a further step towards longer-term national decisions on road pricing, Transport Secretary Alistair Darling said on 28 November.

Built in Thailand, 700,000 units have been shipped worldwide since 1988, 52,000 of which have found homes in the UK. The L200 has led its market sector in the UK since 2001.

Volkswagen LTs continue to Ring and Ride

redbluevan (21k image)Twenty-eight Volkswagen LT46 minibus conversions, worth some £850,000, have joined Ring and Ride, the dial-a-ride service run by charity West Midlands Special Needs Transport.

All long-wheelbase high-roof 109 bhp 2.5-litre diesels, they were supplied through dealer Volkswagen Van Centre North Midlands. Midland Coach Concepts of Birmingham carried out the conversion work.

Suspend Dartford tolls says FTA

tollsuspension (21k image)A call for the trial suspension of tolls at the Dartford Crossing has been issued by the Freight Transport Association (FTA).

Such a move will instantly make traffic run more smoothly, underlining the massive amount of congestion the tolls create as drivers queue to pay, the association argues. Unplugging the bottleneck will also make it easier for the government to assess whether a second crossing will really be needed in the future, it adds.

New Volkswagen LT to be built by Mercedes

Active safety is a mystery to most motorists– SMMT survey
