Vauxhall secures van fleet deal with Homeserve

Homeserve Group, a leading provider of insured repairs and emergency services to the home, has finalised a deal with Vauxhall to supply a combined fleet of over 1,000 vans worth in excess of £16.5m at showroom prices.

LDV Maxus wins more orders

LDV has won a £1.8m deal to supply 100 of its recently launched Maxus vans to self-drive-hire specialist Auto Travel. With a franchise to run 20 Hertz rental outlets across the UK, the Ellesmere Port based company operates over 3,000 vehicles.

Imported Mega Electric Vans put into Service

Two Mega electric vans sourced from importer Aixam Mega have gone into service with Worcester City Council’s Environment Services department, replacing three-year-old handcarts.

The handcart operators had to walk two or three times a day from city centre locations to the town depot to unload their cargo of litter. Using the Megas instead means that they can spend more time keeping the city centre rubbish-free and extend their activity radius.

FTA fights London congestion tax extension

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has expressed its vehement opposition to proposals to extend the London congestion tax zone westwards. Arguing that extension is premature, it adds that goods vehicles should be exempt from the tax anyway.

Its supplier of the commercial vehicles is ChangAn Group which has over 100 years of history and currently one of the leading automotive maker in China.

Until this story came through, if you had asked us who invented the phrase “white van man” we would have blinked a few times and then changed the subject.

It turns out, though, that it was radio presenter Sarah Kennedy, whose contribution to the language has been honoured in an unusual way - she has become Honorary President of the newly-founded Ford Transit Owners Club.
