A14 — East Anglia’s largest car park?
Once again the Freight Transport Association has called for the A14 to be improved to motorway standard as soon as possible. “There is congestion every day of the week, while during the rush hour it looks more like the largest car park in East Anglia than a road,” says FTA regional policy manager, Louisa Bellee.
That’s hurting the economy because the A14 is a vital link between Felixstowe — the UK’s largest container port — and the Midlands, says the association.
It’s concerned too about what it describes as its “appalling” safety record. “The high accident rate is due to its design,” says Bellee. “There are 27 junctions in 23 miles, with many having low standard slip roads. This situation needs to be addressed.”
