Compact Van That’s Designed For Driving In The City
RENAULT look set to strengthen their position in the light commercial vehicle sector with the Kangoo Compact.
Designed for urban driving, it will offer a new concept in the LCV market.
The Kangoo Compact is primarily aimed at those whose jobs take them frequently into city centres, where parking and ease of manoeuvrability are critical.
But it will also appeal to those who just require a more compact van to meet their needs, regardless of location.
At 3.83m, the Kangoo Compact is 38cm shorter than the Kangoo Van. This has been achieved by reducing its wheelbase by an equivalent amount.
The shortened wheelbase reduces the turning circle, making it ideal for inner-city driving. In fact, the Kangoo Compact needs just 9.4m between kerbs to be able to complete a U-turn.
In spite of its diminutive dimensions, it boasts a load capacity of 2.3 cubic metres.
It also features an interior width of 1.21m, enabling it to accommodate standard Euro pallets.
The Kangoo Compact has many clever storage spaces, such as the A4-document dashboard stowage, overhead parcel shelf and a large, lidded 15-litre glovebox.
It can also serve as a travelling office thanks to its many multimedia and navigation features.
The Kangoo Compact comes with a range of engines suited to motoring in built-up areas.
The 1.5 dCi diesel is available with an output of either 68bhp or 86bhp, while the 1.6 8V petrol unit delivers 86bhp.
All of the engines drive through a five-speed manual gearbox.
With CO2 emission levels of less than 140g/km, the diesels are particularly economical.
The dCi 86 returns 55.4 mpg overall while emitting 135g of CO2 per kilometre The 1.5 dCi 68 has a combined fuel consumption of 53.3mpg, while the petrol offers 35.3mpg.
UK prices will be announced next month, with ordering starting in October.
