Forestry Commission goes for off-roading Berlingos
Thirty-five Citroën Berlingo 2.0HDI 600 XTR+ enhanced traction vans are being delivered to the Forestry Commission. To be operated by the organisation’s Mechanical Engineering Services business unit, they form part of an order for some 100 Berlingos that also includes standard 2.0HDi vans in LX and Enterprise trim.
XTR+ has been specifically developed for customers who require a van with a reasonable amount of off-road capability so that they can, for example, drive along rough woodland roads without getting stuck. Boasting higher ground clearance than the ordinary model, it also features a limited slip differential for better traction.
That makes it less expensive for the operator than opting for a vehicle with four-wheel drive whose full capabilities may never be used.
The Forestry Commission’s XTR + Berlingos will be deployed in a variety of roles. They’ll be used by supervisors and to carry tools, lubricants, dogs and wet weather gear, replacing 4×4s in some cases.
Modifications include a rear seat conversion so that two additional crew members can be transported.
Berlingos and Dispatches dominate the commission’s 650-strong light van fleet. Supplied through dealer Citroën Glasgow, its latest acquisitions are subject to a five year contract hire agreement with Lex Vehicle Leasing that does not include maintenance.
