And the Most Reliable Van is...
The recent Fleet News FN50 survey results are in where the big-shots of the commercial vehicle manufacturing business have been battling it out to be number one. Like the European Unions’ handling of the debt crisis, this years’ leader board has a very German feel to it, with some very interesting results to consider before deciding what next van your next purchase will be.
Volkswagen was awarded the most reliable manufacturer of vans whilst the accolade for most reliable model went to the Mercedes Sprinter.
In our opinion, these annual results confirm what we know about Germany in general: relentlessly reliable and good at winning everything (though at least no penalty shoot-outs were involved this time)! The Sprinter managed to knock the ever-popular Ford Transit and Transit Connect off top spot (2nd and 4th) with VW’s Transporter and Caddy cementing their positions in the Top 5 too. Arguably these results confirm why all these vans were in the Top 10 for sales figures in 2010 - as well as being the most popular vans, it is no surprise that they are the most reliable too.
The manufacturers chart was battled out on a transatlantic playing field with Germany again coming out top. Volkswagen proved that they were the most reliable van maker, with Ford coming in second and Mercedes settling for the bronze medal position. The top 5 was completed by Fiat and Renault proving that other countries in Europe can also make vans that get from A to B all the time – well, nearly.
Don’t tell car owners but reliability is arguably more important to van owners than car owners as often a van off the road means business is halted. So these statistics are vital (well, almost as vital as finding out Van Guard’s Top 10 famous vans, number 5 out tomorrow!) to give us the information we need to make decisions that allow our businesses to run smoothly.
Unsurprisingly, we have learnt from this survey that if we value a reliable van, it is probably best to buy German, but if you have any different views please let us know. Do you own one of the ‘most reliable’ vans and disagree with these findings? Or are you running your Vauxhall or Toyota for the 15th year in a row with still no problems? Comment away…
